GMA Pallet (48" x 40")
The GMA (Grocery Manufacturers Association) pallet is the most common pallet size in North America. It's designed to fit efficiently in standard truck trailers and warehouse racking systems.
This pallet size allows two pallets to sit side by side in a standard 53' trailer with minimal wasted space, making it ideal for shipping and logistics efficiency.
Pallet Components
Deck Boards
The top and bottom horizontal boards that support the load. Top deck typically has 5-7 boards.
Stringers
The parallel boards running lengthwise that support deck boards. Standard pallets have 3 stringers.
Blocks
Square or rectangular pieces that support the deck in block pallets. Usually 9 blocks per pallet.
Lead Board
The first and last deck boards at each end. Critical for forklift entry.
Notches
Cut-outs in stringers that allow 4-way forklift entry on stringer pallets.
Pallet Entry Types
2-Way Entry
Forklift can only enter from two sides (front and back). Common in stringer pallets.
4-Way Entry
Forklift can enter from all four sides. Common in block pallets or notched stringers.
